When Taani’s (Anushka Sharma) fiancé dies in a car accident just before their wedding, Taani’s heartbroken father asks Surinder to marry her to ensure she is taken care of. Out of a sense of duty and a hidden crush, Surinder agrees. Taani, however, is shattered. She agrees to be a dutiful wife but cannot bring herself to love her "boring" husband.
