The most common way to perform a BDE unlock is using a recovery key. Since this key is generated when BitLocker is first turned on, you can usually find it in one of these locations:

Why? Because insecure people are mean. They need to cut others down to feel tall. When you have unlocked BDE, you are so secure in your own foundation that you can afford to be radically generous.
