Set in 1930s Korea, "The Handmaiden" tells the story of a young pickpocket named Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri) who is hired by a con man, Count Fujiwara (Hiroyuki Tanaka), to pose as a handmaiden to the wealthy and reclusive heiress, Lady Hideko (Kim Hae-sook).
