For the uninitiated, GO!GO!7188 (often stylized as GO!GO!7188 or ゴーゴー7188) formed in Kagoshima, Japan, in 1998. The trio — Yumi Nakashima (vocals/guitar), Akiko Hamada (bass/backing vocals), and Turkey (drums) — crafted a sound that defied easy categorization. Surf rock, punk, enka, new wave, and 1960s girl-group harmonies collided in their music, often underpinned by Nakashima’s deadpan yet emotionally raw delivery. Songs like “Koi no Uta” (Love Song) and “Aa Seishun” (Ah, Youth) became cult anthems. The band's debut single, released earlier in June 2000
