The film tells the story of three brothers, Peter (Owen Wilson), Francis (Adrien Brody), and Jack (Jason Schwartzman), who have not spoken to each other in years. The brothers, all in their 30s, are brought together by their mother (Anjelica Huston) to travel across India on the famous Darjeeling Limited train.
